Into all our trips to Thailand’s Northern region, Tailor made Vietnam incorporates a number of exciting activities that never fail to please students. Some of these activities can be incorporated into a CAS component , while others are a fun adjunct to the rest of the trip. Activities offered in Thailand and Laos trips are:
Trekking Chiang Mai is a centre for treks to the mountainous north, home to the hill tribes of Thailand. The most popular trails are in Chiang Dao region, where over 300 bird species and a wide variety of orchids and other flowers can be seen. The lush hills and virgin forests of this area are scenic backdrops that will make your trekking by foot or on elephant back truly memorable.
Elephant Safari Elephant safari is the only way to see the northern woodlands and rainforests of Southeast Asia. Often combined with a hiking trip and a bamboo rafting or whitewater rafting excursion, elephant trekking provides a great opportunity for students to interact with these magnificent animals, while experiencing the rich hill tribe village life that still exists in Thailand and Laos.
Cycling Tours/ Mountain Biking The mountainous terrain and scenic landscape of northern Thailand makes it perfect for cycling and mountain biking. Ranging from easy to very challenging, students can enjoy cycling or mountain biking over a great number of trails in the region, ranging from a 2 hour bike trek to overnight trips specially designed to complement International Award programs.
Rafting For an exhilarating and heart pounding interlude, students will love rafting in Southeast Asia. All trips are operated by licensed and experienced guides. For groups seeking a more sedate river journey, the lower reaches of the hinterland rivers near Chiang Mai and Chiang Dao provide a beautiful way to see the lush countryside of northern Thailand.
Cooking Classes A Thai cooking class is always a highlight of our trips. The classes are very hands-on, taught by local cooks who delight in teaching students about the flavours, ingredients and techniques of cooking Thai food. The class is usually run in the afternoon so that students can feast on their culinary masterpieces in the evening.
Thai Boxing Thai boxing is an ancient Thai art form, which students can experience in a strenuous but fun workout. The instructors are well-trained, and provide a great environment for learning new skills.
Yoga and meditation class The art of yoga and meditation began in India in the second century, however it is now quite popular in Thailand and Laos. Yoga classes, particularly for male students, are often cited as a highlight of our trip. The classes encourage students to take time out from their busy itineraries, and engage in personal reflection and relaxation. The health and well-being benefits are true for both young and old.
