This 8-day trip through southern Vietnam and into Cambodia features a special trip to the Mekong Delta to areas very few travellers to the region ever get to see owing to its remoteness. Whilst travelling you will get to experience the very heart and soul of Vietnam ‘rice basket’ before crossing the recently opened border between Vietnam and Cambodia to travel to the intriguing capital of Cambodia, and finally to the magnificent Temples of Angkor. At all times you will be escorted by your Tour Leader and in Cambodia enjoy the services of an additional guide who will provide you with specialist knowledge and commentary when exploring the temples. Most importantly, this trip is also designed to be highly enjoyable and features several inclusions to provide travellers with a very memorable and fulfilling introduction to two of the most beautiful and friendly countries in Southeast Asia.

Day 1 Arrive Ho Chi Minh City Touchdown in Ho Chi Minh City and you will be met at the airport by your group leader who will escort you to your centrally located hotel. After a short group meeting to discuss the itinerary we will enjoy an afternoon walking city tour before dining at one of the city’s finest restaurants. (B, D)

Day 2 Ho Chi Minh City This morning we will travel by cyclo deep into China Town famous for its huge wholesale markets, bustling street scenes and Chinese decorations. We will also visit the War Remnants Museum to learn of the recent wars from a Vietnamese perspective and later explore a huge central retail market packed with clothes, household items and unusual foodstuffs. (B)

Day 3 Can Tho / Chau Doc An early morning departure by bus will take us through the heart of the Mekong Delta region to the famous southern city of Can Tho. En route we will visit remote villages and farming communities. Arriving in Can Tho around lunchtime we will have a short time to wander through the town’s wonderful market before we head west to the border town of Chau Doc. On arrival we will check into our hotel before we tour the city briefly on cyclos (a rickshaw propelled by a cyclist) to get a local view of the town. Time permitting this evening we will take a bus ride to the peak of Sam Mountain to enjoy the spectacular sunset across the Cambodian border. (B, D)

Day 4 Phnom Penh-Cambodia This morning our real adventure begins as we take our chartered express boat across the newly opened Vietnam-Cambodia river border crossing on the road to Phnom Penh. Our trip provides glimpses of remote Cambodian scenery, only recently opened to foreign travellers. On arrival we will set out to visit some of the city’s attractions including the Russian Market, which features some of the best DVDs, handicrafts and silverware to be found anywhere. (B)

Day 5 Phnom Penh to Siem Reap This morning we will visit Phnom Penh’s famous sights including the Silver Pagoda and the Royal Palace, followed by a visit to the infamous Toul Sleng Prison and the Killing Fields – both stark reminders of Cambodia’s tragic recent history. After lunch we will return to our hotel to prepare for our late afternoon 1-hour flight to the town of Siem Reap – gateway to the magnificent temples of Angkor. (B, D)

Day 6 Siem Reap (Angkor Temples) Today we will explore this amazing complex guided by one of our local experts, beginning with the largest and most inspiring of all the sites – Angkor Wat. Our local guide will tell stories of the glory of the Angkor period, Khmer myths and legends, and the sacking of the Angkor city. Today we will also visit temples in the nearby area including Preah Khan, Angkor Thom and the fascinating Ta Prohm jungle temple. (B)

Day 7 Siem Reap There is the option this morning of an early morning departure out to the temple complex to experience a sunrise over Angkor Wat. We will then travel back to the hotel to enjoy breakfast before another day of exploring the temples, enjoying a ride in a tethered balloon or riding elephants through this amazing complex. In the afternoon we will enjoy lunch near the temple complex before returning to our hotel to relax before our final Cambodian dinner. (B, D)
